Local News Flood and insurance meetings coming up

For some, the concern is salvaging what they can from a ferocious fire. Others want to protect themselves from the next disaster ? massive floods that are expected to sweep into town this summer and in future years.The last of the meetings addressing these concerns are coming up, so if you've procrastinated, you're running out of time to get the information you need.
If you're in a flood prone neighborhood be aware: Two neighborhood meetings addressing Waldo Canyon Fire-related flood issues are coming up.
The Ute Pass Flood Awareness & Emergency Preparedness Town Hall was rescheduled for weather, and will now take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on April 22 at Ute Pass Elementary School.
Manitou Springs has a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on April 24 at Manitou Springs City Hall.
A third meeting for Mountain Shadows residents was scheduled for April 23, but has been postponed. We'll let you know when a new date is set.
Meanwhile, fire victims should scratch April 23 in their calendars:
El Paso County will host United Policyholders as it presents a ?A Roadmap to Recovery: Workshop for Waldo Canyon Fire Survivors. The meeting is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, at Centennial Hall Auditorium.Topics of the workshop include critical insurance deadlines and decisions, extension requests and other options, and healing and dealing throughout the long term recovery.
Expert speakers will address policy deadlines and issues related to time and dollar limits on Contents, Dwelling, Loss of Use, Landscaping and other benefits, plus the "Suit Against Us" clause. A Q&A period and insurance interest group breakout sessions where you can network with other fire survivors will follow the substantive presentation.
Free parking is available in the Parking Garage on Sawatch Street directly behind Centennial Hall.
